Mic | Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s intense workout routine is getting the book it deserves

Ruth Bader Ginsburg: Icon. Legend. United States Supreme Court justice. Workout superstar?

Indeed, the 84-year-old justice really may be our next Richard Simmons or Jane Fonda with the release of a new book entitled, The RBG Workout: How She Stays Strong… and You Can Too!, which describes the intense workouts Ginsburg has sworn by for years.

Of course, it’s not RBG who wrote this book. She’s far too busy. It’s actually written by her longtime trainer Bryant Johnson and illustrator Patrick Welsh, whose talents are showcased in the book via illustrations of Ginsburg in full black robe, purple leggings and sneakers, doing every exercise described in the book along with you.

Ginsburg’s consistent and brutal workout has actually been notorious for a while, with a Politico story in 2017 finally giving it the credit it deserves. Its title? “I did Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s workout. It nearly broke me.”

So there.

Meanwhile, Ginsburg reportedly works out with Johnson twice a week for an hour each session, doing everything from push-ups to planks. The trainer himself also has quite a reputation. Johnson’s an Army reservist who works as a court clerk in Washington, D.C., and has been training Ginsburg since 1999. He trains fellow Justices Stephen Breyer and Elena Kagan too.

It was just earlier this year that Ginsburg, after being asked about her health, said, “A very important part of my life is my personal trainer.”

Maybe after you buy this book when it’s released on Oct. 3, he will be too.
